As the first urban Green House® in the country, the Center features a home-like environment with every modern convenience. Consisting of ten 7,000-square-foot condo-style “homes” on six floors, the residence offers both short-term and long-term rehabilitation service. The Leonard Florence Center provides all the amenities of a five-star resort. The highly trained support staff helps individuals live as independently as possible. Since it’s opening in 2010, the Center has been recognized throughout the world as an innovative model of care for seniors. Clearly, it’s a far cry from a traditional nursing home! The Green House environment, a truly revolutionary concept in nursing home care, creates a wonderful sense of community and family within the home. There are no nurse’s stations or medical carts; the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. With nursing staffers, also known as shahbazim, preparing food much of the day, the homes are filled with the delicious aromas of freshly prepared foods. In the context of a skilled nursing residence, “green” in this case means living in a natural world, with an abundance of sunlight, greenery and outdoor access.
